I knew you had to have a designy/art background! I just hadn’t read enough of your blog to confirm my suspicion. I could tell by the layout/theme you chose and everything else–it’s CLEAN. I like clean.
yep! my first degree was in fine art, and i was a practicing artist throughout my teaching career.
i am keen on clean as well. i would get a custom page if i was not so tight fisted, but this one suits me well enough. i haven’t done any visual art things in a long while but i still have AWESOME TASTE.
OH, I’ll tell you that little part where it says “Appearance” and CSS coding made me upset when I found out you had to get an upgrade to do a little extra coding. heheh. I know basic CSS so I was looking forward to customizing mine a little. I would definitely get a domain as well, but that would be if I had another type of blog, for this, it’ll do.
annoying, isn’t it!
still, wp is a pretty good platform. it’s got many more bells and whistles than livejoural but is similar in some ways, so easy for me to get the hang of. i had a blogspot blog briefly, but found it awkward to handle.
when i started blogging i wanted to keep it free, partly to see how much presence i could have for nothing, and partly because i was broke, and having an internet connection was a luxury, and partly because in the event of my death i didn’t want my writing to disappear.
livejournal got very infested with ads before i got my wp account, and someone gave me a paid account for a year, but i wanted something sustainable, and even though it might not be a lot of money, it’s still money, and really the free version is pretty good, here.

Poppet is a jolly good writer isn’t she? Hurrah for Poppet!
she is a good editor.
we also believe she is secretly a programmer. she is often found doing mysterious key commands on ten’s netbook.
Hi there. I found your blog through rosewinelover and I’m glad I did. Loving your work!
Also loving your dog – he looks very similar to mine, a staffy mix with an attitude
thanks very much!
she’s a typical staffie. since we moved she has taken a liking to rotties. glad she’s been snipped!
